On April 24 we collaborated with The Maker's Place Diaper Depot to purchase and repackage 7,964 diapers and 67 packages of baby wipes that will be distributed to needy families in the local community.
Executive Director Callie Crowder was there to speak a bit about the program. They have distributed 1.5 million diapers since the programs inception in 2019. They average 23,000 diapers per month to approximately 800 families. Our club is proud to have been a part of that impact and success.
From there is was Callie's task to get us started and keep us organized and focused. A big challenge but she was up to the task. We then transported all the diapers and wipes back to their facility in Ewing to be distributed to those needy families. A great, successful project. Please reach out if you would like to volunteer for our next project.
Our Princeton High School Interact club, lead by member Andrea Dinan, sponsored a Day of Giving at the high school. Service clubs in the high school set up demonstrations of their work in the community.
Student had a chance to visit these demonstrations and learn more about serving the community. As it was focused on service, our club set up a table as well to engage with students about the wider world of service beyond high school. It was a very enthusiastic and committed group of students, all serving their community. That's what Rotary is all about! If you would like to help us with a project, please reach out, we love volunteers.
On Friday April 10th The Princeton Corridor Rotary was honored to welcome as our guest speaker Jim Barlow, the Princeton University Men’s Soccer Coach. Jim, a 1991 graduate of Princeton University, is approaching his 30th season in that role. Over the past 15 seasons Jim has guided his teams to four NCAA tournament appearances and two undefeated Ivy League seasons.
A Hightstown High School standout, he was a member of the inaugural Hightstown High School Hall of Fame, the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame as well as the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Hall of Fame.
Rotarian Andrea Dinan and another Princeton Public High School colleague returned to Mérida, Mexico this spring to continue her work with under-resourced students at UABIC (Unidad Académica Bachillerato con Interacción Comunitaria). What began as a Fulbright Program project in 2016 has grown into an ongoing partnership focused on expanding opportunity through education.
This year’s English Language Bootcamp brought together students and educators to prepare for the English portion of the university entrance exam, a critical step for students seeking access to higher education. Beyond language instruction, the program emphasized confidence, collaboration, and exposure to new possibilities for the future.
UABIC serves students who demonstrate strong academic potential while facing significant economic challenges.
The program continues to be made possible through the support of the Rotary Club of Princeton Corridor, Rotary Club of Montecristo, and dedicated partners on the ground in Mérida. This ongoing collaboration reflects Rotary’s commitment to education, international understanding, and service above self.
This experience remains a powerful reminder of how global partnerships can create meaningful, lasting impact for students and communities alike.
The results of the latest Rotary happy hour are in, a good time was had by all! Please join us at the Metro North restaurant, every second Tuesday of the month, beginning at 4:30PM. You will find good conversation, food, drink and laughter.
In honor of our Country’s 250th Birthday, Matthew Travers was our guest speaker on Friday April 17th. Matt is a historical interpreter at the Old Barracks Museum in Trenton. The Colony of NJ built the Barracks in Trenton in 1758 to house British soldiers during the French and Indian War. The Barracks is significant for its role during the American Revolutionary War, particularly the Battle of Trenton as it served not only as housing for soldiers but also as a military hospital. The Trenton Barracks museum is currently undergoing renovations and will be re-opened to the public on July 4th.
The Princeton Corridor Rotary guest speaker on Friday April 3rd at the Hyatt Regency Princeton was long time member of the Rotary Club of Trenton and author Hal Levenson. Hal spoke to us about the hard truths of leadership. Which coincidently is the title of his book “The Hard Truths of Leadership; Authenticity, Values and the Journey to Significance”.
Hal was a CPA before founding Trilogy Partners which is now a division of Haefele Flanagan. Hal is the Chief Growth Officer of Haefele Flanagan where he is responsible for the plans for long term company growth.
