The Rotary Club of the Princeton Corridor

Around the Club - May 2025
The Princeton Corridor Rotary was proud to welcome to our weekly meeting on Friday May 30th the six college scholarship winners, their parents and counselors. This year our Rotary Club gave out $2000 scholarships to six high school students from three high schools in the area, WWPHS North and South as well as Princeton HS. The club then honors the scholarship winners with an annual scholarship banquet during one of our Friday meetings. Congratulations to all of this year’s scholarship recipients! Well done!
Our guest speaker on Friday May 30th at our annual scholarship luncheon (and weekly meeting) was Ryan Fraser. Ryan is 18-year veteran of the New Jersey Transit Police, where he is a captain and serves as Commanding Officer Disaster Management.
Ryan was one of only 15 candidates selected nationally to serve in Washington DC in the prestigious 2023-2024 White House Fellowship Program.  Prior to starting with NJ Transit, Ryan worked over 1,000 games as a professional ice hockey referee. His father, Kerry Fraser holds the current record for most regular season NHL games refereed.

As is our habit, we have an informal meeting offsite from the Hyatt for the fifth Friday of any month. This month we have our wonderful scholarship luncheon on the fifth Friday, so we were offsite this past Friday. Our regular venue is Capauano Ristorante in West Windsor. A very relaxed and informal lunch but a lot of good food and fun.
At the Princeton Corridor Rotary weekly meeting on Friday May 16 at the Hyatt Regency Princeton the Princeton Corridor Rotary members were proud to assist Valerie Benitez and the Rise Pantry in Hightstown, NJ with a non-perishable food drive to help stock their shelves for those families and individuals in need. Rise has been serving the local community for over 50 years! The Rise pantry was established in 2006.
Each Spring a unique cross-cultural teaching event takes place in Mérida, Mexico—bringing language, opportunity, and international connection to life. What began during a Fulbright teaching assignment has grown into an annual program rooted in equity, collaboration, and student empowerment due to the support of Princeton Corridor Rotary and Club Rotario Montecristo in Mexico.

This April, Princeton High School Teachers Andrea Dinan and Christine Carbone returned to Unidad Académica, a public high school serving students in one of Mérida’s most under-resourced communities. With the full support of local administrators and educators and the support of the local rotary club, they led an intensive English language "boot camp," designed to boost students’ confidence in speaking, comprehension, and vocabulary.
This program would not be possible without the continued support of the Rotary Clubs, which generously funds materials, classroom resources, and on-the-ground logistics. Local teachers co-led activities, ensuring the work remains sustainable and deeply connected to the needs of the school.

Said Princeton Corridor Club member Andrea Dinan, "This work is about more than language, it’s about belonging, confidence, and connection. We’re already planning next year’s return, and we’re excited to keep growing this partnership between both clubs."

At our Friday April 9th meeting at the Hyatt Regency Princeton, current Princeton Corridor member Scott J. Needham spoke to us about his recent experience siting on the jury of a murder case at the Trenton County Courthouse.
Our guest speaker at the May 2nd meeting of the Princeton Corridor Rotary was Barbara J.Boyd, Esq. The Wills, Trusts and Estates Council at the law firm of Maselli, Mills and Fornal, P.C. Barbara represents clients in estate administration and develops comprehensive estate plans for individuals of all asset levels. Barbara also creates first party special needs trusts and third party supplemental benefit trusts. Barbara discussed the do’s and dont’s of estate management as well as well as the implementation of wills and trusts.
