It's back-to-school time so our club put together backpacks for St Bartholomew's Lutheran Church in Trenton NJ. Each year the church distributes 300+ backpacks to students in the local area. This will be our 4th year supporting their efforts. We contributed a total of 96 backpacks through the effort and generosity of our club members.
Rotarians busy at work helping our local community. Please reach out if you would like to help support us in this effort.
Our meeting on August 14 was graced by the presence of Dr. Lois Lee. Dr. Lee is a professional organist, accompanist, pianist and conductor. She attended Westminister Choir College and was also a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar through the Princeton Rotary.
Dr. Lee now works in Alabama but returned to visit and related her journey with Rotary. She is originally from Korea but developed and close relationship with her scholarship sponsors in the Princeton club. She credited the scholarship and related experiences with changing the course of her life.
Dr. Lee was also kind enough to play a few selections on the piano in the Hyatt. The video is part of that performance. Thanks to Dr. Lee for visiting and giving us a very unique luncheon experience.
We partnered with One Simple Wish at our meeting on July 24 to create Love, Hope and Joy bags. The organization spreads love, hope, and joy by granting wishes to kids and young adults impacted by foster care and crisis. The bags contains games, writing and coloring materials, among other things.
We also further supported them with a grant from our Foundation to help allow them to continue to grant wishes. The club is proud to support the good work of One Simple Wish. If you would like to participate in one of our projects, please reach out through our web site.
On Friday, August 7 we were visited by the West Windsor Police Department. Chief Robert Garofalo was in attendance and has been a great friend to our club over the years. First order of business was to present the Chief with a donation to support their annual Bark Drop.
This event helps support local animal rescue shelters with needed supplies. Then we got a demonstration of the K-9 unit. This dog is trained to find explosives and when she detects something, she is trained to sit.

Our club participated in the Princeton Community Night Out event on August 4. This was part of the National Night Out program. Many local organizations came out to engage with the local community. Princeton Mayor Mark Freda was kind enough to visit our table during the event. We were glad to support this effort of bringing the community together and we will continue to support and engage with the local communities we serve.
